To provide a warm and caring office atmosphere in which students are treated with sensitivity and dignity.

To assist the University community with individuals who may pose a psychiatric threat to themselves or to students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors.

To assist students in the identification and development of positive traits which will help them in their personal, social, and work responsibilities.

To provide professional therapeutic services and assistance to students whose personal and learning problems interfere with their ability to benefit from academic and extracurricular experiences.

To assist students in need of psychiatric services through medical management and counseling.

To diagnose conditions as appropriate in accordance with the most recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association.

To make recommendations for administrative action when student's psychological conditions prevent fulfillment of academic responsibilities or significantly limit their ability to function in a behaviorally appropriate manner.

To use psychological tests when appropriate and be guided in their selection by the reliability, validity, and utility of the instruments.

To be knowledgeable about community social service resources and their potential benefit to students.

To provide education and training opportunities, clinical supervision, and research guidance for students in accredited psychology, counseling, and social work graduate programs.

To assist students with alcohol and other drug concerns and problems, and to serve as a resource to the University community for information, training, and guidance on matters related to substance use, abuse, and addiction.
