Intended for those in the legal field, social and victim service providers, or any others interested in learning more about this topic, this training will explore common legal issues impacting LGBT families, especially LGBT families experiencing domestic violence. Legal information regarding estate planning and advanced directives will be explored generally for all LGBT families and as both potential protective strategies for survivors of domestic violence who identify as LGBT and as abusive tactics that batterers may use. Additionally, important information regarding family law for LGBT couples will be discussed. Family law topics may include but are not li+mited to: effects of sexual orientation and gender identify on custody cases, rights of partners to children they have parented and adopted in Florida, domestic violence injunctions and much more.
