The Creative Arts in Social Work with Paul Lesnik, MSW

Date: Oct. 14th, 2006

Time: 10:00am—1:00pm

Place: FAU BOCA CAMPUS UNIVERSITY CENTER SAGO PALM ROOM, 1st Flr. (Next to Senate Chambers)

An experiential workshop designed to tap participants' creativity through multidisciplinary art experiences.

A personal adventure in action, movement, word, and the visual arts.

Applications suitable to school, mental health and juvenile justice settings.

Dress comfortably so that all of you is involved in your personal creative process

A salon is an opportunity for social work students to gather in a relaxed casual forum with industry professionals and discuss the latest topics of interest to our profession.

Objectives for Participants

Ø Participants will explore their inner creative resources through hands-on art activities

Ø Participants will identify personal artistic strengths to utilize with clients

Ø Participants will develop an understanding of arts-based interventions and their application to clinical and educational settings

About Paul:

Paul directed the Kansas City based agency, Accessible Arts, for six years. Accessible Arts develops and directs programs for disabled and non-disabled children in the arts to meet educational and/or therapeutic goals. Paul operates from a foundation in Psychodrama, the action-based umbrella discipline that encompasses drama therapy and group psychotherapy, and has studied with pioneers in visual art, dance, sandplay and music therapy.

Paul is currently a social worker and psychotherapist for Compass, Palm Beach County's Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in West Palm Beach.

Entering the Child’s World: Communicating in the Language of Play with Dr. Linda Hunter, PhD, LCSW.

4723 West. Atlantic Blvd, Suite A-3 Delray Beach, Fl

Making use of the Association for Community Counseling’s fully equipped play rooms, we will experience aspects of play and sandplay therapy through discussion, viewing slides, and building miniature “worlds” while learning techniques for ‘listening’ to children with our eyes as well as ears.

Linda B. Hunter Ph.D., LCSW has been working professionally with children and families since 1983. Linda is a psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, registered Play Therapist- Supervisor and a Clinical Member of the International Society of Sandplay Therapists.

She is the author of IMAGES OF RESILIENCY: Troubled Children Create Healing Stories in the Language of Sandplay (1998) and articles about the use of play and sandplay therapy with culturally diverse populations. She has presented extensively throughout the United States and internationally.

She is currently the clinical director for the all-volunteer ASSOCIATION for COMMUNITY COUNSELING which trains and supervises students and volunteers to implement a client-centered group model that makes play and sand tray play therapy available at no cost to children in schools, after-school programs, day care, shelters, and other community settings.
