BOCA RATON STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES

Boca Raton Medical Clinic

Comprehensive medical care is provided for all eligible FAU students. Services are provided by Master's prepared Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Board-certified Family Physicians and a Gynecologist. General medical care is provided for: illness and injuries; men's health problems and testing for sexually transmitted infections; mental health issues; and health promotion counseling. The student health fee included in each student's tuition subsidizes the cost of medical visits. Reduced fees are charged for laboratory testing, medical treatments, procedures, medications, equipment and supplies. All services are available by appointment. How the Medical Clinic Can Assist You

The following are examples of needs that can be addressed in the Student Health Services Medical Clinic:

Infections such as coughs, colds, sore throats, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, pink eye, ear aches, urine infections, and skin infections;

Skin problems such as rashes, hives, cuts, burns, bruises;

Accidents such as sprains, strains, injuries, needle sticks, back aches;

Gastrointestinal problems such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, rectal pain or bleeding;

General problems such as fatigue, malaise, aching, joint pain, allergies, allergic reaction, menstrual cramps, abdominal pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, asthma or wheezing, high blood pressure or diabetes;

Men's health problems, such as testicular pain, scrotal masses, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), burning with urination;

Mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, panic and sleep disturbances and counseling and health teaching on diet, STIs, birth control and health promotion.

Physical Examinations

Complete examinations are offered by appointment for routine, or pre-employment physicals. These include a complete history and physical, height, weight, blood pressure, urinalysis, and some blood tests, all for a reduced fee.  Phone (561) 297-2276 to schedule an appointment.

Mental Health Care

Assistance is available for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, insomnia, fatigue, domestic abuse, or any other emotional issues. Anti-depressant medication can be prescribed. Make an appointment in the medical clinic. Student Health Service also works closely with the FAU Counseling Center and outside mental health providers. Referrals for counseling will be made when appropriate.

Screening for Mental Health provides a free and anonymous self-assessment program.  This program features issues including depression, alcohol, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, generalized anxiety and eating disorders.  The screening provided through this website takes only a few minutes to complete and can offer valuable resources to members of the FAU community.

Disease Prevention/Health Promotion

Counseling is available for nutrition/healthy eating, disease prevention/health promotion, and information regarding disease processes. Assistance for smoking cessation is available and prescription medication can be prescribed.

Self-Care

Educational pamphlets are available for students with minor health problems. These can be found in the waiting room to assist with self-care.  Other health education brochures can be found in the hallway outside Today & Beyond Wellness in the Student Services Building (SS8), Room 222.

Collegiate Assistance Program (24-hr Nurse Triage)

All students have access to nurse advice and health information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by dialing 866-281-9725.  The Collegiate Assistance Program is staffed by Registered Nurses who can help students determine if they need to seek medical care, understand their medications or medical procedures, or learn ways to stay healthy.
