Student Government Constitution
SG Constitution
A Message from Your Former Student Body Vice President
February 2, 2009
Dear Fellow Students:
Several changes to the Student Government Constitution were made in the past year. These changes were made to help facilitate the evolution of Student Government as its rules, policies and practices harden into tradition. I am confident that we have a stronger document today than we have ever had before.
Revisions included:
- Clarifying the length of terms of office for Student Government elected officials
- Fixing grammatical errors
- Changing the amount of time each Campus Student Body Governor has to approve legislation (from 7 days to 5 days)
- Giving the Student Body President veto power over legislation passed by the Campus Houses of Representatives, and in turn giving Campus Houses of Representatives veto overturn power with a ¾ vote
Again, these alterations were designed to ensure that our organization remains unified across all campuses in the future, and to strengthen the foundation of our organization.
The amended Constitution was approved by the Boca Raton, Broward and Treasure Coast Houses of Representatives, the Student Senate, a majority of students who voted in the Fall 2008 SG Election, and the Board of Trustees.
Kindest Regards,
Edward Fulton Former Student Body Vice President Florida Atlantic University
