Dear Fellow Students,

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! This academic year promises to be an exciting time for FAU. One glance at  Florida Atlantic  University will tell you that we are growing. With projects such as the Alumni Center, new modern classroom facilities, a brand new gym, and the expected groundbreaking of the Innovation Village and FAU’s football stadium there has never been a better time to be an FAU student.

Furthermore, there has never been a better time to get involved! I encourage all students to explore opportunities with FAU Student Government. In early fall we will be holding elections for Campus House of Representatives as well as for the Student Senate. In spring we will be holding elections for Campus Governors as well as Student Body President and Vice President.

Involvement with Student Government is rewarding and exciting, and of course, fun. Please take a moment to explore the Student Government Elections website to find out more information about elections. Don’t hesitate to talk to your campus Student Government Advisor about elections, or call the Elections Board directly at 561-297-1357.

The Fall 2008 SG Legislative Election ballot will include four SG Constitutional Amendments questions to the Student Body that have been approved by the Student Senate and the Boca Raton, Broward and Treasure Coast Campus Houses of Representatives:

1. Constitutional Amendment for Error Corrections and Compliance (as attachment cannot be included in MyFAU announcements, copies of the edits to correct spelling and grammar problems in the current SG Constitution are posted at all SG Offices by the SG Advisor. A copy will also be posted on the SG website).

2. Article IV. Executive Branch, Section 3. Duties and Powers of the Student Body President, would be revised to state that the Student Body President shall: E. Sign or veto legislation passed by the Senate and Campus Houses of Representatives within five (5) business days from passage and Article III. Legislative Branch, Section 5 Powers, Duties and Limitations of the Campus House of Representatives would be revised to state C.9. Override the Student Body President's Veto of Campus-based legislation by a three-fourths (3/4) vote.

3. Article IV. Executive Branch, Section 5. Duties and Powers of Campus Governors would be revised to state that the Campus Governors shall: A. Sign or veto legislation passed by the Campus House of Representatives within five (5) business days from passage.

4. Article VI. Elections, Section 3. Installation of Officers, G. Oath of Office would be revised to state 3. All Student Government elected and appointed positions shall have terms of office of up to one (1) calendar year beginning upon installation and ending upon the installation of their successor.

Don't forget to vote online on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and Wednesday, Sept. 17.  To vote, log onto MyFAU at http://myfau.fau.edu (after the polls open at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16) and click on the "SG Election" tab.  If you have not logged onto MyFAU recently, please make sure that you are able to do so before the election period begins.  If you have problems logging in, please submit a ticket to the Online Computing Support Center at http://www.fau.edu/helpdesk.
