Maria E. Santamarina teaches intercultural communication and other courses in the Intercultural Communication Sequence. She also directs the Intercultural Communication Internship where students are placed at different organizations throughout South Florida that specialize in marginalized populations and diversity issues to expand learning beyond traditional classroom boundaries. This program enables undergraduates to develop intercultural leadership skills, while gaining a greater understanding of global situations and processes. Field sites include the Department of Justice/Community Relations Service, Maya Ministry Family Literacy, Florida Commission on Human Relations, Broward County Schools' Cultural Outreach Department, and Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews. Maria E. Santamarina is a Florida licensed attorney. She began her legal career at the Legal Aid Society of the Dade County Bar Association over twenty years ago where she established free quality legal and social services programs throughout Miami-Dade County, Florida, specifically for victims of domestic violence and for migrant farm workers. Santamarina also directed and taught third year law courses at St. Thomas University School of Law; a family law litigation clinic, which included the teaching of substantive and procedural marital and family law, including the supervision of student externships; and a clinical field placement program. Santamarina is a member of the Florida Bar.
