 Degree Audit

A degree audit, produced by the Student Academic Support System (SASS), is a comparison of students' FAU academic history to their major program requirements. Degree audits are intended to be used by students with their academic advisors to help in planning course selection for future enrollment. Audits may also serve as graduation verifications.

On an audit, each degree program is broken down into REQUIREMENTS. Each requirement has:

(1) A title line that tells what the requirement is and if it has been completed;

IP- is printed on the left margin if completion of currently enrolled courses (In Progress) will count toward the requirement.
NO- is printed on the left margin if the requirement has not been met.
OK- is printed on the left margin if the requirement has been met.

(2) An earned line that tells how much of a requirement has been met;

EARNED- indicates how many hours have been earned toward this requirement.
SUB-REQS- indicates how many sub-requirements have been completed.
GPA- indicates the GPA (Grade Point Average) of course(s) meeting the requirement or sub-requirement.
Most sub-requirements also have a Title Line and an Earned Line.
If the requirement is met, the courses taken to satisfy the requirement may print.

(3) A needs line that tells what remains to complete the requirement; and

NEEDS- is printed on the left margin to point to the NEEDS LINE. It indicates how many credit hours still remain for completion of the requirement.
SUB-REQS- indicates how many sub-requirements need to be completed.
GPA- indicates the GPA that must be earned on courses for this requirement.
Blank lines will appear if there is no need for the SUB-REQUIREMENT and GPA information.
It is important that the NEEDS LINE be read so that the hours, sub-reqs, and GPA are connected by "ands."
SELECT FROM- indicates courses that may be selected to fulfill the sub-requirement.
NOT FROM- indicates courses that will not fulfill the sub-requirement.

Example:

NO

(4) A list of any courses that have been applied to the completion of the requirement.

DATE- is printed by followed by term indicator:

01=Spring Semester
05=Summer Semester
08=Fall Semester
(for example, 9608 means "Fall, 1996")

Note: Semester indicators may vary for the CLAST test and any course completed at another institution.

COURSE- is printed with the course number in effect when taken.
HOURS EARNED - includes the number of earned credit hours that count toward satisfying the requirement. Currently enrolled courses (RG) are not included in this total.
GRADE- the grade earned in the specific course.

Many requirements are further broken down into SUB-REQUIREMENTS. If a sub-requirement has been met, a plus (+) sign is printed to the left of the requirement number or a minus (-) sign is printed is the sub-requirement has not been met.

Transfer courses- are identified by the following codes after the grade
for each course:
  • "2" indicates a non-Florida community college
  • "4" indicates a non-Florida four-year institution
  • "J" indicates a State of Florida community college
  • "S" indicates a State of Florida four-year institution
  • "AA" indicates a requirement completed by an
  • Associate of Arts degree from a Florida public institution

Students should see their advisors regarding transfer courses to be used toward FAU degree requirements.

Grades- are printed to the tenth of a credit to allow for any quarter
hour to semester hour conversions. Some of the following codes
accompany grades:

  • RG means a currently registered FAU course
  • F, I, NC, NG, U, W, WM, X, or Z grades earn 0.0 hours
  • DT or FT grades have 0.0 hours earned. These are courses that have been "forgiven" at FAU and the grade is not computed into the GPA for the requirement or sub-requirement.
  • DTN or FTN grades have 0.0 hours earned. These are courses that have been repeated from
    other institutions.
  • V or N grades have 0.0 hours earned. These are courses that are considered remedial or
    occupational/vocational and not eligible for academic credit.
  • G grades have 0.0 hours earned. These are courses calculated into the overall GPA but not inthe FAU GPA.
  • CL indicates that the course has been satisfied through the College Level Examination Program
    (CLEP). The number of accepted credit hours will be indicated. No grade points will be calculated.
  • RW indicates Requirement Waived.
  • GC indicates Gordon Computation requirement met.
  • GW indicates Gordon Writing requirement met.

When there are duplicate courses, the course with the highest grade will be used to determine hours earned. The other course(s) will show 0.0 hours earned. However, unlike courses taken with "forgiveness," all duplicate courses are computed into the GPA calculation.

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisors on a regular basis to discuss their
degree programs and to plan appropriate courses for each registration period.
