Incisor teeth continuously grow in rodents
They can become overgrown from trauma or a genetic defect. Once overgrown, they can not chew properly and may die. The treatment is to trim them with a nail clipper as required. Once you have to trim them, then you should check them regularly for re-growth. (Photos)
ALL animals must be ordered by Veterinary Services.
Also, please remember that if you wish to order animals from unconventional vendors (other than Charles River, Harlan, Taconic, Jackson Labs or Myrtle Rabbitry) Veterinary Services must have a current health status on the colony before the animals can be ordered. Please be sure this has been taken care of.
Protocols and IACUC Policies - Moved to Research Compliance Services
Please go there for the latest protocol (since they change frequently) and for the currently approved policies.
The latest approved policy is one for study areas. All PIs that have animals out of the facility for more than 12 hours are required to have approval and follow the guidelines stated in the IACUC policy on Study areas including keeping proper records. The Daily Activity Sheet for Amphibians and Reptiles is now available at the same screen for download. I will be coming around to discuss procedures for study areas soon.
