Listed below is a short list of web sites to start your search for scholarships, fellowships and other training opportunities. These will lead you to some of the many sources of funding and are by no means the only ones out there. Good hunting!

Scholarship Granting Organizations

  1. Oak Ridge Associated Universities - undergraduates, graduates, post-docs, internships, sabbaticals
  2. Council of Graduate Schools - www.cgsnet.org/Default.aspx?tabid=119
  3. IGERT Joint Program in Applied Mathematics & Earth and Environmental Science - http://www.apam.columbia.edu/igert/
  4. Ron Brown Scholarships (www.RonBrown.org). Leadership, community service, all fields. This is one of most prestigious scholarships and it's very, very competitive.
  5. Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship (www.JackieRobinson.org). It's renewable. Academic merit, leadership, community service, all fields.
  6. Kodak Scholarships (www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/students/). For those studying in film/cinematography at U.S. colleges.
  7. Intel Science Talent Search (www.sciserv.org/sts) You must present a scientific research project.
  8. Gates Millennium Scholarships (www.gmsp.org/). The Gates Millennium Scholarship is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for thousands of outstanding students with significant financial need.
  9. NSBE Scholarships -- National Society of Black Engineers (www.nsbe.org/programs/nsbescholarships.php). This is primarily for engineering students, and others majoring in related disciplines
  10. Ambassadorial Scholarships (www.rotary.org/foundation/educational/amb_scho/prospect/award/index.html). This is the prestigious "rotary" organization scholarship for students who can speak another language and want to study abroad in the "host" country of that language. You should have completed at least 2 years of college work.
  11. Xerox Technology Minority Scholarship--Go to: www.xerox.com and type in "Scholarship" in the search engine. This is a good scholarship for strong minority scholarships for students studying in areas like chemistry, engineering, physics, and "tech" areas.
  12. NCAA Scholarships (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Go to: www.ncaa.org/about/scholarships.html This is the major NCAA sports association student-athletes are associated with. Awards are given in all sports categories. Awards are also available for sports related study (like sports journalism).
  13. National Alliance for Excellence Scholarships--Go to: www.excellence.org/programs.html The student competitors can be seniors or already in college. They must submit an application that can include recommendations (academics), art (slides), dance (tapes), photographs, or other materials that point to talent and achievement in all areas.
  14. Harry S. Truman Scholarship--Go to: www.truman.gov The is one of the most prestigious scholarships, shaped for students who intend to pursue a career targeted to public service or government. Graduate study should be a goal, with a portion of the funds directed there. You must be atleast a junior, and your college must nominate you. A "nomination" package must be created.
  15. Society of Women Engineer Scholarships (www.swe.org/). These scholarships are targeted for women who are majoring in engineering or computer science.

    This is a link to one of many at the site listing hundreds of opportunities--general, international, minorities, biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, summer abroad, and post doc.
  5. Council for International Exchange of Scholars Fulbright, www.iie.org/fulbright
  6. GrantsNet. This helps find funds for training in the sciences and undergraduate science education. Go to http://sciencecareers.sciencemag.org/
  7. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. In addition to the Foundation's Graduate and Undergraduate scholarships found on the Home page, there is an extensive list of funding opportunities for students on the Resource page. Go to http://jackkentcooke.org/.
  8. Nationally Coveted Scholarships, Fellowships and Postdoctoral Awards, scholarships.fatomei.com
