Technical Reports 97-01
(Progress, Interim, Final)

Each year, the Office of the Auditor General, State of Florida, performs financial and compliance audits for all sponsored projects. Part of its review is a test for timely submission of technical reports.

Delinquent interim and final technical reporting has been noted in past audit reports. We are reminding you via this Memorandum to submit technical reports on time. Some major funding institutions withhold funding when technical reports are outstanding. Please send a copy of the letter/transmittal document to Sponsored Programs when you submit your Progress or Final Report to your funding agency. We keep these documents as evidence that the report has been submitted if a project is selected by the auditors for review.

To improve compliance with technical reporting requirements, a no-cost time extension may be requested if you are unable to submit a report by the due date. The no-cost request should be written by the principal investigator, stating technical reasons for the extension request. The request should be endorsed by the Director of Sponsored Programs. In normal circumstances, an agency will revise due dates for technical reports when granting the request. If the report is submitted by the new deadline, the auditor will consider the University to be in compliance. The due dates for interim and final technical reports are now being recorded by Sponsored Programs on the post award data collection sheet for your reference and future audit follow up.
