Collaborations with musicians who champion world, electronic, contemporary classical or other genres are welcome. Projects may include, but are not limited to, composition, touring, recording, and audience-development activities. Public performance is required, with the understanding that jazz speaks to diverse populations and experiencing music together bridges differences. French and American citizens or legal residents are encouraged to apply. Grants will range up to $10,000 each. Supplemental Funding Opportunity
National Science Foundation - Supplemental Funding
General Supplemental Funding - In unusual circumstances, NSF will offer small amounts of supplemental funding and up to six months of additional support to assure adequate completion of the original scope of work. The grantee must submit a request for supplemental funding at least two months before funds are needed.
The Biological Sciences (BIO) Directorate offers supplemental funding to current BIO grants to establish research Assistantships for High School Students (RAHSS), in order to increase participation of women, underrepresented minority students, and those students who are persons with disabilities. Additional information can be found here: http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=500035&org=DEB&from=home.
The Geosciences (GEO) Directorate does not offer supplemental funding for educational activities, but they do have a stand alone grant program called the Geoscience Education (GeoEd) Program. Grants are made for pilot projects and also to integrate geoscience research and education activities into existing Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP), Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP), and/or Centers of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) projects. More information can be found here: http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5505&org=ERE&sel_org=ERE&from=fund.
The Education and Human Resource Directorate (EHR) offers a grant for, “communicating research to public audiences,” as part of the Informal Science Education (ISE) program. This would be a separate grant, and the proposal is due in November. For more information, go to http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5361&org=EHR&sel_org=EHR&from=fund. If you are planning to apply for an informal science grant, you might want to take a look at the recent Academies Report, “Learning Science in Informal Environments,” which was NSF funded and has a best practices section which may have influenced the evaluation of ISE proposals.
