National Endowment for the Humanities - Fellowship Awards
These Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, and other scholarly tools. Fellowships support continuous full-time work for a period of six to twelve months. Fellowships may not be used for: curricular or pedagogical methods, theories, or surveys; preparation or revision of textbooks; projects that seek to promote a particular political, philosophical, religious, or ideological point of view; projects that advocate a particular program of social action; works in the creative and performing arts, i.e., painting, writing fiction or poetry, dance performance, etc.; or doctoral dissertations or theses. 1. The Recovery Act provides for $100 million in funding for victim compensation and assistance. Of that $100 million, $47.5 million in formula funding will be directed to state agencies that administer Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funded crime victim compensation programs, and an additional $47.5 million in formula funding will be directed to state agencies that administer VOCA-funded crime victim assistance programs. OJP’s Office for Victims of Crime will administer this funding and provide detailed guidance to the eligible state agencies on application and reporting requirements in the solicitations that are currently being developed.
Five million of the $100 million will be directed to discretionary grant projects. The $5 million will be used to make awards under the currently open National Field-Generated Training, Technical Assistance and Demonstration Projects (NFG) competitive grant solicitation. 2. FY 2009 National Field-Generated Training, Technical Assistance, and Demonstration Projects (PDF 800 kb)—This grant opportunity offers awards of $50,000 to $500,000 to private nonprofit organizations or public agencies to support the development of national-scope training, technical assistance, and demonstration project initiatives. All initiatives must focus on improving the capacity of victim service providers and allied practitioners to advance rights and services to crime victims in a variety of areas, including child abuse, elder abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. 3. FY 2009 State Victim Assistance Academy Initiative. This grant opportunity offers up to six first-year awards of $35,000 for the development and provision of comprehensive, academically based, fundamental education and training for victim assistance providers, victim advocates, criminal justice personal, and allied professionals who routinely work with victims of crime. Grants could total $195,000 for this 3-year project. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment from the state Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) victim assistance and compensation program offices to help develop the Academy. National Science Foundation - "Collaboration in Mathematical Geosciences (CMG)"
The purpose of the Collaboration in Mathematical Geosciences (CMG) activity is to enable collaborative research at the intersection of mathematical sciences and geosciences, and to encourage cross-disciplinary education. Projects should fall within one of three broad themes: (1) mathematical and statistical modeling of complex geosystems, (2) understanding and quantifying uncertainty in geosystems, or (3) analyzing large/complex geoscience data sets. Research projects supported under this activity must be essentially collaborative in nature. Research groups must include at least one mathematical/statistical scientist and at least one geoscientist. Proposals that address problems with relevance to global change and sustainability are especially encouraged. Deadline: Mar. 10, 2009. NSF supports construction, conversion, acquisition, and operation of major shared-use oceanographic facilities. The University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) schedules these facilities and expeditionary programs. This program (PD-98-5410) supports expensive facilities that are necessary for NSF-funded research and training of oceanographers. Examples of these facilities are ships, submersibles, large shipboard equipment, and shared-use instruments to collect and analyze data. NSF encourages local contributions from nonfederal funds; however, there is no fixed requirement for institutional contributions. NIH Regional Seminar: "Program Funding and Grants Administration" April 16-17, 2009, Atlanta, GA
Each year, the Office of Extramural Research (OER) sponsors two NIH Regional Seminars on Program Funding and Grants. These seminars are intended to help demystify the application and review process, clarify Federal regulations and policies, and highlight current areas of special interest or concern. The seminars serve the NIH mission of providing education and training for the next generation of biomedical and behavioral scientist. NIH policy, grants management, review and program staff provide a broad array of expertise and encourage personal interaction between themselves and seminar participants. The seminars are appropriate for grants administrators, researchers new to NIH, and graduate students. On April 16-17, Georgia State University & the Georgia Institute of Technology are hosting the April 2009 Regional Seminar on Program Funding & Grants Administration on behalf of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Extramural Research at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta.
