South Florida - Caribbean Cooperative Ecosystem Unit (SFC-CESU)
The SFC-CESU is part of a nationwide network of biogeographically focused programs which were established to provide research, technical assistance, and education to federal land management, environmental, and research agencies. The SFC-CESU focuses on the marine, coastal, and terrestrial ecosystems of the South Florida and the Caribbean. The SFC-CESU activities encompass all ecosystems of terrestrial and coastal environments, including estuaries and nearshore oceanic environments, salt and freshwater wetlands and mangroves, terrestrial wetlands (Everglades), and coral reefs. The SFC-CESU deals with both applied scientific and socio-economic issues relevant to the geographic study region.
The host institution in this region is the University of Miami's Rostenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science (at http://mgg.rsmas.miami.edu/sfcesu/index.asp). The groups's current science agenda can be found at http://mgg.rsmas.miami.edu/sfcesu/splan.asp. Its membership as of October 2007 is available at www.fau.edu/research/osr/files/SFC-CESU.doc.
