FUNCTIONS OF RESEARCH ACCOUNTING

Research Accounting is one branch of the Division of Research. Our office is responsible for the post award administration of externally funded research programs and projects at Florida Atlantic University. Following is a list of our specific functions:

1. Establish new accounts for sponsored projects
2. Establish cost share accounts
3. Establish program income accounts
4. Review and approve Purchase Requisitions, Expenditure Transfer Forms, and Tuition Waivers on sponsored projects
5. Invoice sponsors
6. Collect revenue from sponsors and follow up on outstanding invoices
7. Reconcile cash balances on sponsored projects
8. Monitor the amount of cost share met on sponsored projects
9. Prepare and submit financial reports to sponsors
10. Prepare and submit property reports to sponsors
11. Close out sponsored projects
12. Provide guidance on financial compliance issues for sponsored projects
13. Establish policies and procedures concerning the post award administration of sponsored projects
14. Provide training on grants management topics
15. Monitor subrecipients
16. Serve as a liaison with federal, state, sponsor, and internal auditors
17. Develop and negotiate the University’s indirect cost rate proposal
