As soon as an FAU personnel believes they have a potential novel discovery or creation, an FAU Confidential Invention Disclosure Form should be completed and sent to the Technology Development Office. These documents provide the necessary information to evaluate the feasibility patentability market demand, inventorship and obligations to research sponsors.

The Invention is to be kept confidential until a patent application or copyright has been filed or certain rights may be lost. Refrain from discussing the invention or sending it to others, including any sponsor, until certain confidentiality agreements can be signed by all parties. This includes discussion, papers, publications, posters, and presentations. Be sure research notebooks referencing the work described in the Invention Disclosure are witnessed and kept in a safe place. Note the location of these documents on the Disclosure Form.
