Disclosure Process

As soon as an FAU personnel believes he or she has a potential novel discovery or creation, an FAU Confidential Invention Disclosure Form or FAU Confidential Works Disclosure Form should be completed. These documents provide the necessary information to evaluate the feasibility patentability market demand, inventorship and obligations to research sponsors.

The original and one copy should be hand delivered to:

The Works or Invention is to be kept confidential until a patent application or copyright has been filed or certain rights may be lost. Refrain from discussing the invention or sending it to others, including any sponsor, until certain confidentiality agreements can be signed by all parties. This includes discussion, papers, publications, posters, and presentations. Please consult FAU Technology Transfer at 561-297-1165 for more information and assistance with confidentially arrangements.

Be sure research notebooks referencing the work described in the Invention or Works Disclosure are witnessed and kept in a safe place. Note the location of these documents on the Disclosure Form.

Technology Transfer will notify the Creator of a Works within 60 days as to FAU s interest in retaining ownership of the Works. The Creator of an Invention is notified within 120 days.
