Why FAU?
WHY PARTNER WITH FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY?
Private industry increasingly looks to universities to help fulfill many basic needs. Florida Atlantic University can work with industry to help corporations meet today's challenges including:
SOURCING AN EDUCATED WORKFORCE
FAU students are one of our greatest resources and FAU alumni are found among the top ranks of American industry in both management and research capacities. For executive, research, marketing, sales and other managerial positions, the FAU Career Development Center seeks to prepare undergraduates and graduates for professional employment opportunities by working with employers to hire FAU graduates and to provide internship and co-op opportunities.
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE & CURRICULA RESPONSIVE TO INDUSTRY'S NEEDS FOR NEW TALENT
Many faculty members and staff bring previous practical industry experience into the classroom and laboratory, as well as understanding industry needs and providing technical assistance to business. Industry input into the education process is greatly facilitated through corporate memberships on advisory boards, executives-in-residence and as guest speakers.
SHORT-TERM CONSULTING TO LONGER-TERM STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
Our faculty has expertise in any number of industries. Approximately half of basic research in the United States takes place in a university or college environment. FAU faculty members currently conduct nearly $60 million in sponsored research for government and industry.
RESEARCH CENTERS AND SPECIALIZED FACILITIES
FAU has numerous facilities to test new ideas and technologies. Available facilities are not just limited to use of laboratories, but can include use of other parts of FAU to showcase demo projects; or beta-test new products, services or ideas; or perform clinical trials. FAU is the home of many specialized and nationally recognized laboratories including Florida’s Center of Excellence in Biomedical and Marine Biotechnology, the NASA supported Imaging Technology Center, two research parks and a business incubator. The SBDC provides quality services to entrepreneurs and small business owners, including education, training and confidential business counseling, while the FAU College of Business offers an MBA in Global Entrepreneurship through MIBE.
TECHNOLOGIES AVAILABLE FOR LICENSING OR JOINT DEVELOPMENT
FAU is a repository of many innovative technologies important for businesses to maintain a competitive edge. Some of our most successful industrial collaborations have been in the area of technology transfer. The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) staff works with FAU faculty, staff and students to facilitate the transfer of FAU technologies to the commercial sector for public benefit.
PROFESSONAL AND CONTINUING EDUCATION
Whether to retain or upgrade corporate personnel, FAU offerings include executive education programs for top management; complete degree programs to retain and develop managerial or research staff; certificate programs to obtain or maintain professional licensing and credentials; occasional courses (with continuing education units) to upgrade worker skills; corporate training programs and the development of customized educational curricula. These programs are available at the seven FAU campuses in day, evening and weekend formats.
