Undergraduate Research and Inquiry
Opportunities for Students
We are very pleased and excited that you are interested in ways to get involved in undergaduate research and inquiry. Below is a list of opportunities for you to consider. Many of these opportunities will afford you the chance to work closely with other students, graduate students and faculty members. Please take a look at the programs below in order to obtain a better understanding of the opportunities that are available to you.
There are many ways to begin getting involved in undergraduate research and inquiry. Here we have highlighted a few suggestions for students to get involved.
Apply for an Undergraduate Research Grant. Students can use the money to help fund with research projects and creative activities. Application deadlines are October 15, February 1 and June 1. Should these dates fall on a weekend day or holiday, the deadline will become the next business day.
Participate in the Undergraduate Research Symposium! Students at the sympoisum showcase their research and inquiry efforts and are celebrated for their work. The next Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held on Friday, April 5th, 2013 from 10:00am to 3:00pm, in the Live Oak Pavillion on the Boca Raton campus of FAU.
Submit your research and inquiry projects to the FAURJ. This journal provides students with the opportunity to publish peer-reviewed works. Submissions are accepted in the spring for fall publication. If you are interested in submitting your work OR becoming a peer reviewer please contact members of the FAURJ at fauurj@gmail.com.
Get involved in the Council of Scholarship and Inquiry. This is a student organization that seeks to promote and expand a culture of research and inquiry at FAU, and provide opportunities for students to emerse themselves in this culture. The club is always looking to expand it's membership so please contact them at faucsi@gmail.com if you are interested in becomming a member.
Obtain a FREE membership to the Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR). All FAU faculty, staff and students now have access to free membership to the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). The benefits for students include: access to special information on funding opportunities; research opportunities, awards, jobs and events; access to the Registry of Undergraduate Researchers for Graduate School recruitment (for faculty) and getting into graduate school (for students); subscription to the CUR Quarterly and other publications; substantial discount on conferences and workshops hosted by CUR. We encourage all to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. To become a member begin by loging into myfau.fau.edu. Next, click on the "Student" tab, and follow the instructions to apply for membership.
Showcase your own work! There are a number of showcasing opportunities here at FAU including: the FAURJ and the Undergraduate Research Symposium. Students may also collaborate with a professor and fill out the Student Spotlight Template in order to be showcased on the web.
Look for Honors prorams within your discipline! Take research enriched courses and enhance your research and inquiry skills.
Direct Independent Study (DIS)
Apply for a DIS within your major. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members and also receive college credit.
College Specific Opportunities
There are a variety of opportunities hosted in each college. We are in the process of gathering information for these opportunities, to provide to you.
