Undergraduate Research Symposium - Encourage your students to take part in the Undergraduate Research Symposium. Students at the symposium showcase their research and inquiry efforts and are celebrated for their work. The next Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held on Friday, April 5th, 2013 from 10:00am to 3:00pm, in the Live Oak Pavillion on the Boca Raton campus of FAU.
Undergraduate Research Grants - Encourage your students to apply for an Undergraduate Research Grant. Students can use the money to help fundtheir research projects and creative activities. Application deadlines are October 15, February 1, and June 1. Should these dates fall on a weekend day or holiday, the deadline will become the next business day.
Showcasing Students - Showcase your students' current undergraduate research and inquiry projects. Use the template provided and email a copy to us at qep@fau.edu. Submissions are due on December 7th, 2012.
Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) - Obtain a FREE membership to the Council of Undergaduate Research (CUR). All FAU faculty, staff and students now have access to free membership to the CUR. The benefits for faculty and staff include: access to special information on funding opportunities; research opportunities, awards, jobs and events; subscription to the CUR Quarterly and other publications; and substantial discount on conferences and workshops hosted by CUR. We encourage all to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. To become a member begin by loging into myfau.fau.edu. Next, click on the "Faculty" or "Staff" tab (based on your status), and follow the instructions to apply for membership.
Curriculum Grants Program - Faculty interested in redeveloping an existing course or developing a new one that is research and inquiry intensive will have the opportunity to submist an application for a Curriculum Grant. This program will begin in Febraury 2013 and guidelines and applications will be made available then. We will be soliciting applications from interested faculty members in the upper division.
QEP Pilot Programs - Three pilot Honors in the Major programs were selected based on recommendations from College Deans. The pilot programs that have been selected are in the departments of Accounting, Biology, and Political Science. The three pilot programs are currently beta-testing a collaborative model between departments and the QEP for establishing, implementing and assessing undergraduate research and inquiry curricular efforts. The QEP steering and assessment teams are currently working with these faculty and departments on this pilot program.
Existing Fresman Pilot Initiative - We have partnered with the Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) , to pilot a “research and inquiry exposure” focus into several Freshman Learning Communities and Living Learning Communities through a common course SLS 1502 which students are required to take. From the FLC and LLC offerings, eight wonderful instructors have agreed to partner with the QEP and implement a research and inquiry focus to their SLS course. They are currently developing course materials which expose students to the excitement of discovery and develop student specific skills (QEP student learning outcomes).
