Florida Atlantic University has served the Treasure Coast since the 1970s, partnering with Indian River Community College (IRCC) to extend educational opportunities that take students from an associate’s degree to undergraduate and graduate degrees. In 1994, FAU purchased 50 acres of land in the St. Lucie West area of Port St. Lucie and moved into an existing building on the site. After operating for eight years with limited office space and classrooms, FAU joined IRCC in opening today’s unique 100,000-square-foot, joint-use facility.
The Treasure Coast Campus now enrolls close to 2,800 students each year and offers coursework and degrees from FAU’s regionally and professionally accredited colleges. In addition to the Port St. Lucie location, the FAU/Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution (HBOI) Marine Science Partnership Building is under construction at HBOI in Fort Pierce. The FAU Charter Lab School Project in the Town of Tradition further expands the University’s presence and commitment to the area. As the educational needs of the Treasure Coast change with economic development, FAU is poised to respond with the best opportunities for area residents.
