As Associate Provost, Michael R. Armstrong has primary responsibility for university-wide enrollment management. This includes development and maintenance of a consistent university approach to the establishment of enrollment targets and monitoring their attainment as well as coordination with state-level offices -- including the Florida Board of Education and the Florida Legislature and Executive Office of the Governor -- concerned with university enrollment issues. His office provides support to deans, departments, campus vice presidents and others in developing course schedules that deliver maximum enrollment opportunity to students. The Associate Provost directly supervises the Registrar's Office and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Community College Relations. He also chairs the Enrollment Management Conference, which coordinates the enrollment-related activities of other pertinent areas of the university -- including Financial Aid, Retention, Housing and others -- to forge a coherent approach to enrollment management.
Dr. Armstrong joined Florida Atlantic University in 1999, after more than 20 years involvement in enrollment management at the state level in Florida, including 12 years as Director of Planning, Analysis, and Research for the State University System of Florida.
Dr. Armstrong holds a B.A. in French, and an M.A. in Higher Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and a Ph.D in Higher Education from Florida State University. He is retired after 30 years of service from the United States Naval Reserve with the rank of Captain, serving in his final post as commander of all Naval Reserve intelligence personnel in Florida.
