Happy Women’s Equality Day!

Wednesday, Aug 26, 2020

One hundred years ago today — and more than 70 years after the women’s suffrage movement began — the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was certified, granting women the right to vote. Today we recognize the occasion with Women’s Equality Day.

In addition to honoring women’s suffrage, Women’s Equality Day reminds us of the strides women have made over the past 100 years, as well as the struggles many – especially women of color – continue to face, particularly in the professional world. Since its earliest days, FAU has proudly assisted women of all races and ethnicities on their journeys toward professional excellence. We continue to look for ways to support gender equality in leadership roles by adding programs and services to support those efforts, including the Women in Executive Leadership certificate program offered through FAU Executive Education and the annual Women’s Leadership Institute, a conference for students, faculty and staff.

FAU has been blessed with many remarkable female students, faculty, staff and friends over the years who helped to make it the diverse, inclusive institution it is today. I appreciate their efforts and I know their legacies will live on through future generations of successful alumnae.

In honor of Women’s Equality Day, I encourage you to take a moment today to recognize and thank the women in your life who inspire you to be your best, and if you aren’t registered to vote,  click here  for more information about registering.
