FAU Approved as University of Distinction for AI and Data Analytics

FAU is preparing students to be competitive in a rapidly changing global economy, and I am happy to share that our “University of Distinction” plan for applied artificial intelligence and big data analytics was officially approved by the Florida Board of Governors. Big Data Analytics is one of the platforms highlighted in our 2015 strategic plan, and this distinction attests to our leadership in those fields. FAU currently has more than 80 faculty researchers and $35 million in active grants in artificial intelligence and data.

FAU has several degree programs, concentrations and certificates in artificial intelligence and data analytics, and will continue to expand our offerings to contribute to our classification as a “University of Distinction” for AI/Big Data. Our master’s in artificial intelligence through the College of Engineering and Computer Science is the first program of its kind in the State of Florida. The College also offers a Ph.D. in computer science with a concentration in data analytics and soon will add a master’s in data science and analytics. Additionally, the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College launched both a major concentration in data analytics, and a minor concentration in data science, which focuses on the emerging field of the ethics of data use.

As artificial intelligence becomes more of a national priority for workforce and research growth, FAU will work with Unbridled Ambition® to prepare our students to be more competitive in an AI-driven world. This distinction will further elevate the University’s reputation in applied AI and big data analytics, and promote AI and data-driven engagement with our region’s technology industry.
