New Science and Medicine Deans Arriving in January!

FAU will welcome two new academic leaders in early 2017. Ata Sarajedini, Ph.D., recently was named dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, and today we announced that Phillip Boiselle, M.D., will serve as the next dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. Both will assume their roles in January.

Dr. Sarajedini is a leading astronomer and researcher. He comes to us from the University of Florida, where he serves as associate dean for natural science and mathematics and associate dean for research in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and is a professor in the Department of Astronomy. Dr. Sarajedini’s contributions toward growing the college’s research enterprise resulted in nearly $40 million in federal, state and industry funding, as well as grants from private foundations.

Dr. Boiselle, a leader in thoracic imaging and innovation, currently serves as associate dean for academic and clinical affairs and professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School. He also is a member of the cardiothoracic imaging division at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Boiselle oversees the school’s research and educational centers, faculty development and diversity initiatives, and affiliation agreements, among other activities.

Recruitment of outstanding faculty is a key objective of the university’s strategic plan, and once again we’ve succeeded by adding these two academic superstars to our team. I look forward to welcoming our new deans in January!
