Welcome, Dean George!

Today, Safiya George, Ph.D., joins FAU as the new dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Dr. George comes to us from the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama, where she served as assistant dean for research, director of the Office of Scholarly Affairs, and a member of the advisory board of the Alabama Life Research Institute, since 2015. Previously, she was a member of the faculty at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

Dr. George earned her Ph.D. and M.S.N. degrees from Emory University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University in religion and health. Her primary research focus is promoting the health and holistic well-being of individuals living with, or at risk for contracting, HIV/AIDS, through psychosocial interventions.

Dr. George has proven track record of research productivity and a national reputation for excellence in the areas of holistic health, spirituality and HIV. I am delighted to welcome her to FAU and I look forward to her leadership of our world-class Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.
