Thank you, Rubin and Cindy Gruber!

FAU recently received a $1 million gift from Rubin and Cindy Gruber to support the Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics Lab and student scholarships. A 3,400 square-foot space in the S.E. Wimberly Library will be renovated for use by the Lab, and will be named the Rubin and Cindy Gruber Sandbox in their honor. This exciting facility will provide a creative space where students of all levels – from high school to Ph.D. candidates – and in all fields of study can collaborate and actively learn about artificial intelligence using the technology available in the Sandbox.

Rubin and Cindy Gruber are entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Rubin founded several telecommunications, data communications, and digital networking companies throughout his 40-year career. In 2001, he was named one of Tech 100’s “Highest Rollers” by Forbes magazine. Cindy had a successful marketing management career that spanned 25 years and produced an award-winning documentary film.

Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving field, and the developments taking place in the Rubin and Cindy Gruber Sandbox will surely enhance FAU’s reputation for excellence in health, biomedicine and ocean research, as well as other related areas.
