FAU Welcomes World-Class Neuroscientist James Galvin

Late last month, another stellar faculty member joined Florida Atlantic University – another game-changer who will help put FAU on the national stage. James E. Galvin, M.D., M.P.H., joined the faculty of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. An internationally known expert on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, he’s been named associate dean for clinical research and professor in the College of Medicine, medical director of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center, and professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Dr. Galvin will also be affiliated with the Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital as director of the Toby and Leon Cooperman Center for Memory Disorders and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Most recently a faculty researcher at New York University, Dr. Galvin has received millions of dollars in funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, local and state Departments of Health, and private foundations. At FAU, he’ll focus on building a clinical research infrastructure to rapidly test new therapies and bring them to market as well as developing new ways to improve quality of life for people with dementia. Dr. Galvin’s accomplishments are impressive, and there are more to come. We’re so glad that he’s continuing his vitally important work at FAU!
