Schmidt College of Medicine Celebrates Match Day ‘Virtually’

While the nation and world are focused on the coronavirus pandemic, we’re trying to hold on to as many spring traditions as we can at FAU. On Friday, the Schmidt College of Medicine Class of 2020 celebrated Match Day, when soon-to-be-physicians nationwide find out where they will be heading for their medical residencies. At noon, FAU’s medical students – along with graduating medical students across the country – opened their electronic envelopes containing their residency match results, and celebrated virtually with their classmates, faculty and staff.

More than 30 percent of the Class of 2020 will remain in Florida for their residencies. Members of the class also placed in several top institutions nationally, including Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta; University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor; Baylor College Medicine, Houston; Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Washington, D.C; New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center; Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis; Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles; and Nationwide Hospital,  Columbus. Forty percent will specialize in primary care including family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. Additionally, 51 outstanding medical students from around the country successfully matched into FAU’s residency programs in internal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, psychiatry and neurology.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 on being one step closer to becoming practicing physicians! Go Owls!
