What to do if You are the victim of a Sexual AssaultIf you are in danger, Call 911.
If possible, get to a safe place.
Call someone to be with you. You can call a trusted friend, parent, FAU’s victim advocate or the police. If you call the police, it will insure that you receive medical attention and that any physical evidence is preserved.
Go for immediate medical attention if you are injured. If you report a rape to emergency medical personnel, they will call the police. If you are the victim of sexual assault and go to the hospital, the local law enforcement agency will be called. A victim advocate should also be called. In order for police to collect evidence of the assault, it is best if you do not bathe, shower, douche, brush your teeth, urinate, defecate, change or laundry clothing or bedding. Clothing and/or bedding may be taken as evidence. You will receive a physical exam and pictures will be taken as evidence.
If you wish assistance notifying University Police or other law enforcement agencies, you may contact the Victim Advocate. You may report a sexual assault confidentially to the Victim Advocate and still receive assistance. (561-297-0500 24-hour line)
