The Florida Atlantic University Police Department is proud to actively participate in recruiting graduates of Florida Atlantic University following their tenure with us as student employees. Students at Florida Atlantic University have the opportunity to train and work for our Department through our Community Service Officer (CSO) and internship programs. These rigorous and highly competitive programs work together with the University and the Police Department to offer students experience working both in the field and in the Police Department. These programs offer students a chance to take their education from the theoretical to the practical, creating in demand graduates.  

Many of our student employees and interns join our department as full-time employees following their graduation from FAU. We are proud of the personnel that we have been able to recruit from these prestigious programs.

Ricky Bethel, Police Officer

Officer Bethel is an FAU Alumnus from Boynton Beach, FL. He earned his Bachelor'sOfficer Bethel Degree in Criminal Justice. He received an Associate of Science and an Associate of Arts Degree from Pasadena City College and came to Florida Atlantic University on a full athletic scholarship for football. Officer Bethel was a starting cornerback for the 2006 football season where he received the honor of Most Improved Player. Prior to joining our team, Officer Bethel served as a State of Florida Correctional Probation Officer for over six years.

Patrick Garmon, Director of Security Technology Services

Patrick GarmonPatrick Garmon is an FAU Alumnus from South Florida. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. While pursuing his degree, Patrick served our Department as a Community Service Officer for nearly 3 years and was an active member of the American Criminal Justice Association Lambda Alpha Epsilon. In his career here at Florida Atlantic University, Patrick has distinguished himself within the Florida Atlantic University Police Department in many capacities. He has served as the Community Service Officer Program Director, Police Communications Officer and Police Communications Manager, Systems Programmer, Coordinator of Computer Applications and is now heading the the Florida Atlantic University Department of Public Safety Security Technology division.

Chelsea John-Williams, Sergeant

Sergeant Chelsea John-WilliamsDetective John-Williams is an FAU Alumna from South Florida. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. She began her career with the Florida Atlantic University Police Department in the Community Service Program where she distinguished herself as a Field Training Officer for the program. After graduating from the Broward College Police Academy, Detective John-Williams joined the Florida Atlantic University Police Department as a Police Officer. She is the first in her family to serve in the law enforcement community. After serving several years as a Police Officer, she now serves as a Detective.

Victoria Leo, Records Assistant

Victoria LeoVictoria Leo is an FAU Alumna from South Florida. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology and Certificate in Women’s Studies. She began her career with the Florida Atlantic University Police Department as a student intern where she quickly learned how to manage police records. While pursuing her degree, Victoria was an active member in Florida Atlantic University Greek life, where she served as Vice President for her organization. After graduation, Victoria joined the Florida Atlantic University Police Department full-time as a Records Assistant.

Jonathan Ponce, Police Officer

Officer Jonathan PonceOfficer Jonathan Ponce is an FAU Alumnus from South Florida. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Officer Ponce served the Florida Atlantic University Police Department as a Community Service Officer Program for over a year and then transitioned into a full time position as a Police Communications Officer. Jonathan credits these positions as having helped him grow as an individual and as a valuable citizen of the Florida Atlantic University community. Upon graduating from Florida Atlantic University, Officer Ponce attended and graduated from the Broward College Police Academy and is now part of our team as a full time Police Officer. He also serves as the LGBTQ Liaison for the University.

Amy Brown, Coordinator Computer Applications

Amy BrownAmy Brown is an FAU Alumna from South Florida. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. She began her career with the Florida Atlantic University Police Department as a student intern. While pursuing her degree, Amy was an active member in the criminal justice fraternity on campus, ACJA. After graduation, Amy joined the Florida Atlantic University Police Department full-time as the Coordinator of Computer Applications.

Omar Jabiles, Sergeant

Sergeant Omar Jabiles

Sergeant Omar Jabiles is an FAU Alumnus. He graduated in the year 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts with dual majors in Criminal Justice and Psychology. He began with FAUPD as a Community Service Officer (CSO) in 2005 while he was still studying at FAU. Sergeant Jabiles also became a Field Training Officer (FTO) with the CSO program, training new CSO’s. After his graduation, he worked with the Miami Gardens Police Department as a Community Service Aide, and worked as a Police Officer for 5 years. He became an FTO, and a Crisis Intervention Training Officer, specializing in dealing with people with mental illnesses. Now that he has returned to FAU Police, he has become a Rape Aggression Defense Instructor, FTO, and has been promoted to Sergeant.

Andrae Kirk, Police Officer

Officer Andrae KirkOfficer Kirk is an FAU Alumnus with a major in Criminal Justice. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University back in 2015. Fun Fact: he was the FAU Football Team Captain from 2013 to 2014. Furthermore, he started off as an Undrafted Free Agent for the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, and then began his career in Law Enforcement in the spring of 2017. Finally, he began working as an officer here at the Florida Atlantic Police Department in the summer of 2018.

Ariel McGirt, Executive Assistant 

Ariel McGirt Ariel McGirt is an FAU Alumna from Sarasota Florida. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Certificate in Women’s Studies. She began her career with the Florida Atlantic University Police Department in February 2018 as the Chief’s Assistant to Chief Sean Brammer. While pursuing her degree at FAU  Ariel was an Student Athlete as  member in Florida Atlantic University Track and Field program. As well a member of the organization Circle K where she volunteer her time and serve the Boca Raton community. While Ariel was a student here at Florida Atlantic University she met her husband Quinton McGirt whom is also a FAU Alumni and is a serving the Miramar community as a Law Enforcement officer. Together they have a son Tyler who will one day be a Florida Atlantic University Alumni as well.

Amber Raffa, Police Communications Operator

Amber RaffaAmber Raffa is an FAU Alumna. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University in May 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Raffa interned with FAU PD Victim services in her last semester. While assisting the advocate she got the chance to speak with students on campus about many important topics.  Most importantly, she made sure students were aware that there were resources available to them if they are ever in needed. Once she graduated, Raffa got the opportunity to join the Communications Department at Florida Atlantic University’s Police Department and had been working here since November 2017.

Ajah Richards is an FAU Alumna from New York. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University in the year 2017 with a Master’s in Business Administration at the young age of 21. She also has a bachelor’s degree is International Business. Richards began working at FAUPD in March 2018. While on campus she was involved in many student-registered organizations such as Women Empowerment Club, National Council of Negro Women and Alpha Kappa Psi Co-Ed Business Professional Fraternity Inc. Currently she is the faculty advisor for Alpha Kappa Psi.
