Program Components
  1. Academic tutoring that enables participants to complete secondary or postsecondary courses.
  2. Advice and assistance in secondary and post-secondary course selection.
  3. Assistance in preparing for college entrance examinations and completing college admission applications.
  4. Information on the full range of federal student financial aid programs and benefits
  5. Guidance on and assistance in secondary school re-entry; alternative education programs for secondary school dropouts that lead to the receipt of a regular secondary school diploma; entry into general educational development (GED) programs; or entry into postsecondary education.
  6. Education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students or their’ parents, including financial planning for postsecondary education.


Students wishing to participate in Upward Bound must fall under there three major criteria:

  • Participants must attend one of the following four target high schools in Broward County: Blanche Ely, Boyd Anderson, Coconut Creek, or Dillard.
  • Two thirds of participants must meet federal minimum income requirements and be potential first-generation college students (neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree)
  • Participants must have a documented need for academic support.
