Housed under the Dean of Students, Upward Bound is a federally funded program through the United States Department of Education under the National TRIO programs. This program is a partnership between FAU and the Broward County School Board. Upward Bound provides academic support, exposure to cultural events, college tours, and ACT/SAT test preparation to its participants. Our goals are to increase students' GPA, standardized test scores, entrance into college and graduation from college.
FAU’s Upward Bound staff is committed to serving as advocates for participants to access higher education. The program assists participants in achieving their educational goals; facilitates the educational development of students served; provides an environment that recognizes students' diverse backgrounds and learning styles; and develops collaborative relationships with institutions, organizations and communities.
Upward Bound’s mission is to foster learning and development in the high school students who come to the program from low-income households, have the potential to be first-generation college graduates and/or demonstrate academic need. Upward Bound also provides mentorship opportunities for FAU students to develop leadership skills, civic engagement and increased knowledge of University resources.
