How Not To Get A Parking Citation
Parking does not have to be a challenge at FAU.
We hope this information helps you learn the campus parking system in order to avoid citations and other frustrations. To be completely informed of campus parking rules, we encourage you to read the Parking and Transportation Services rules and review the other information on our web site. The best way to avoid costly frustration is to learn the rules and read the signs.
- Park your vehicle only in spaces specifically marked for parking. The absence of a “No Parking” sign in a certain area does not mean that parking is allowed there.
- Permits must be displayed properly on the vehicle according to the instructions on the permit.
- All lots have signs indicating the type of permits allowed. Permit restrictions are in effect and are enforced 24 hours.
- Meters are enforced 24/7. If a meter is not working you must call the Parking office with the meter number before you receive a citation not after.
- If you park illegally and do not find a citation on your car, do not assume that you were not cited or that it was okay for you to park there. You are responsible for any citations issued to your permit or vehicle. You may call our office to find out if you were issued a citation. Information is also available online at your Parking and Transportation account.
- Citations are billed first to the permit holder, regardless of vehicle ownership. If no permit is displayed, then the vehicle’s registered owner is responsible.
- If your vehicle becomes disabled on campus and you are unable to move it, contact the Parking office immediately at 561-297-2771 or the FAU PD after hours at 561-297-3500. You have 24 hours to move your vehicle or have it towed. If it is blocking the roadway or is a traffic hazard it must be moved out of the way immediately.
- Once you have found a place to park, the easiest way to move from class to class is to walk.
If you have a questions about parking, don’t ask your RA, your friend, or your mom who attended FAU in the 70’s, ask the Parking office. We are not responsible for any misinformation that does not come from us. For a complete listing of citations please visit: http://www.fau.edu/parking/Rules_and_Regs_Fines.php
