OWL PARENT ASSOCIATION Dear Owl Parent, FAU is embarking on a new venture in starting the Owl Parent Association. Our goal is to provide parents with the information they need to support their college students, an avenue to stay connected with their student’s education, and an opportunity to connect with other FAU parents. The Owl Parent Association is proud to announce the following parents have agreed to serve on the Parental Advisory Board: Allison Underwood, Jack and Arlene Halsey, John Williams, Leroy Carter, Linda Herman, Lori Martin, Martha Patrick, and Darlene Geiger. By joining the Owl Parent Association, you can become a part of this new and exciting, volunteer-driven organization. We would like to gain the support of all parents and provide the opportunities for parents of FAU students to develop a closer relationship with FAU. We are here to support you, just as you are supporting your students during their FAU college experience. For further details on joining the Parents Owl Association, please go to our website www.fau.edu/parents or e-mail clynch13@fau.edu. Sincerely, Owl Parental Advisory Board Questions of the Month Meal Plans FOR PARENTS… You've nurtured, taught, fed, and taken care of them their entire lives and at this exciting yet frightening time they understand that you want to be sure your child is well taken care of. The goal at FAU Dining Services is to help your child understand and make the right dining choices by offering a variety of options and dining styles from which to choose. While they may never completely replace Mom's cooking, they offer a selection of both comfort foods and authentic cultural cuisine to satisfy and expand your child's palette. They know that the Millennial Generation has grown up eating at restaurants, a few years ago colleges and universities started calling dormitories residence halls. Their cafeterias were renamed dining halls, food courts and dining destinations. Campus Meal Plans give you the peace of mind that your student will have money to eat while on campus. If your student is living on campus, please visit the " For Residents" tab of the Meal Plans ( www.dineoncampus.com/FAU) page. If your student is living off campus, please visit the " For Commuters" tab of the Meal Plans page. If your student is living in the University Village Apartments, you may select from either the “ For Residents” or For Commuters” meal plans. Whether living on campus or commuting to campus, they have options designed for your student's needs. Make sure he or she is well fed while away at college with a Meal Plan. FAU Announcement
Florida Atlantic University’s Barry Kaye College of Business recently dedicated its newest addition, the Office Depot Center for Executive Education. “The Office Depot Center for Executive Education symbolizes the fruitful relationship between Florida Atlantic University and Office Depot,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “This facility will become a focal point for the College of Business as it reaches out to the business community to provide for its professional development needs.” Office Depot, a leading global provider of office products and services headquartered in South Florida, has given a total of $2.8 million to FAU’s College of Business. The first gift, which totaled $2 million, was made in February 2006, with the second donation in January 2007. With matching funds from the State of Florida’s Alec P. Courtelis Capital Facility Enhancement Challenge Grant Program, the gifts doubled in size to $5.6 million. The Office Depot Center for Executive Education is a 15,500-square-foot facility that will provide state-of-the-art classrooms, seminar and workshop rooms, a multi-tiered case study lecture hall, and administrative offices for the College’s department of executive continuing education. The building also has video conferencing capabilities. “Office Depot understands the importance of this Center to FAU and the greater community,” said Steve Odland, chief executive officer of Office Depot. “We believe that our relationship with this fine university will not only enhance the educational opportunities in which the Center will serve its students, but it will better Office Depot for being a part of this remarkable experience.” Dedicated to executive education, training and research, the Office Depot Center expands the College’s offerings to the business community by providing customized programs for South Florida employers, including corporate training events, continuing education classes, degree programs and seminars. This facility enables the College of Business to meet the demands of the business community to satisfy its own training and development needs in partnership with the university. Office Depot has supported FAU and the College of Business for more than 15 years. In 2002, Office Depot provided funding for the Office Depot Eminent Scholar Chair in Small Business Research, now held by Dr. Chandra Mishra, with a gift of $600,000, which received state matching funds. This gift also made FAU the first university in the nation to establish a chair dedicated to the study of small businesses. Office Depot also established the annual Office Depot Small Business Research Forum, a series of academic research presentations set to discuss issues related to the management of the small enterprise.
