Transfer Orientation Guide

The Transfer Orientation Guide volunteer-based position assists with facilitating Transfer Student orientation sessions throughout the academic year. This position will work alongside the Office of New Student Orientation & Transfer Student Services professional staff and student orientation leader team, to ensure a positive and welcoming orientation program.
In addition, this role will assist the Transfer Student Services office and staff in facilitating campus-wide transfer events, when applicable.

Duties and responsibilities of the Transfer Orientation Guide include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with welcoming students and families to Orientation sessions
  • Share knowledge of FAU Campus resources with incoming students and their families
  • Provide directional guidance on day-of orientation
  • Share your FAU pride with future Owls!

Transfer orientations take place at the FAU Student Union. Transfer students and their families arrive and are then:

  • Met by Transfer Orientation Guides at the door of the Student Union and/or the Parking Garage and guided to the check-in area
  • The transfer students are greeted and escorted to the registration desk;
  • After new students have been processed at the registration desk, they are escorted or directed to the meeting room; where the Transfer Guides, Academic Advisors and NSO office further welcome them to FAU and answer any questions they may have.

The Transfer Orientation Guide position's main responsibility is to be a Welcoming Owl to our new students and their families. The Guide will share their excitement about the Owl community with these individuals through being an excited guide during the morning sessions of Transfer Orientation. This role is not only vital to the success of the orientation program, but also the success of our future Owls.

The Transfer Student Guide will assemble at the Student Union for coffee and snacks at 7:30AM. At this point, a short briefing session will be held, and our guests generally start arriving about 8:00AM. The briefing session will provide the Guides with details regarding their role, who they will interact with, the expectations that the NSO/TSS staff has of them, and more. The Transfer Student Guide role ends promptly at 9:00AM, when the Transfer Orientation program begins.
