Do I have to attend SOAR?
Yes, ALL new degree seeking undergraduate students must complete SOAR prior to starting at FAU. Your SOAR experience is designed to help you with your transition to the FAU community. We're excited to have you here!
Freshman students, First-Time-In-College students, 2019 high school graduates, and lower-level transfers with less than 30 credits earned post-high school must attend a two-day First-Year SOAR.
Degree seeking undergraduate students admitted as a Transfer with 30 credits or more earned post high school graduation must attend Transfer SOAR, which is a one-day program that includes group academic advising and registration.
Graduate students, students earning a second bachelor's degree, transient students, dual-enrolled, or other non-degree seeking students are not required to complete SOAR.
I attended an Open House/Campus Day/Campus Tour. Do I still need to attend SOAR?
Yes! We are excited to have you attend SOAR. SOAR is not the same as a campus visit or tour. SOAR is required for all new students, so plan to attend.
Do I register for my classes at orientation?
Transfer students - Yes, you can register for your classes once all your holds have been removed.
First-Year students - You must complete online advising and submit your immunization records before registering for classes. This must be completed BEFORE attending orientation.
Can I bring a parent or guest with me?
Yes! You can bring a parent/guest with you to your orientation. Just be sure to add them to your reservation and submit the payment.
Please note that parents and guests attending Transfer Orientation are unable to attend student advising sessions.
All orientation fees are nonrefundable. Deciding not to attend Florida Atlantic University or having your admission rescinded, does not qualify you to receive a refund of orientation fees. If you decide you no longer want to attend FAU, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the Office of Admissions at 561-297-3040 or email@example.com.
If my family member registers and decides not to attend SOAR, can I get a refund?
No, just as with student fees – all family/guest fees are nonrefundable.
If I have done SOAR in a previous semester, do I need to do it again?
Once you have completed SOAR, the hold will be removed. If you decide to change your term of entry, orientation is valid for 12 months from participation. If you change your term of entry beyond 12 months, you will need to reapply to FAU and reserve for another SOAR.
What if I require accommodation during SOAR?
If you are an individual with a disability and need accommodations please complete the Application for Support Services and submit with documentation of your disability to firstname.lastname@example.org. Student Accessibility Services (SAS) will process the application and contact you to discuss your accommodation needs. SAS requires that this information be provided at least two weeks prior to your orientation date so that they have sufficient time to set up the accommodations requested. Thank you!
Can I change my SOAR date?
You can change your SOAR date up to three business days before your scheduled SOAR.
