OFFICE OF THE OMBUDSMAN

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ombudsman is to facilitate the educational process and enhance the collegial environment at Florida Atlantic University by providing to all university students an accessible, independent, impartial and confidential resource for the expeditious resolution of problems. The Ombudsman serves in this capacity not as an advocate for individuals or the institution, but as an advocate for fairness of outcomes. Achieving this end neither requires nor utilizes the direct imposition of administrative authority. Rather, a thorough familiarity with the missions and operating principles of the institution, combined with investigation, referrals to existing channels, mediation of disputes and provision of reliable information have proven sufficient to attain satisfactory results.


In seeking to prevent problems as well as respond to them, the Ombudsman acts as an agent of change by continuously evaluating established processes and procedures intended to address issues pertaining to student satisfaction, employment, programs and services, and by recommending modification of any found to be lacking in their effectiveness.
