Florida Atlantic University Upward Bound Program

The Upward Bound Program (UB) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is a pre-college preparatory program funded by the United States Department of Education. This program is a partnership with FAU and the Broward County School Board. It is designed to help high school students enter and complete a post-secondary education by increasing the high school graduation rates and post-secondary enrollment rates of participants. Students who are eligible for the program have a documented need for academic support, and are potentially low-income first-generation college students.
Eligibility
Eligibility for Upward Bound is based on four major criterias:

Participants must attend one of the following four target high schools in Broward County: Blanche Ely, Boyd Anderson, Coconut Creek or Dillard.

Participants must meet federal minimum income requirements.

Participants must be potential first-generation college students.

Participants must have a documented need for academic support.
Program Components Weekly after-school tutorials Saturday academic instruction and enrichment

College tours, field trips and social/cultural events

Six-week summer enrichment including a one-week residential component
Benefits Upward Bound participants receive the following:

A $40 monthly stipend during the academic school year.

A $60 monthly stipend during the summer.

Information on post-secondary education opportunities.

Assistance preparing for college entrance exams.

Assistance completing applications for college.

Assistance completing applications for financial aid scholarships.
FAU Upward Bound program personnel are committed to serving as advocates for participants access to higher education. The program provides services to assist participants in achieving their educational goals; facilitates the educational development of students served; provides an environment that recognizes the diversity of backgrounds and learning styles of students; and develops collaborative relationships with institutions, organizations, and communities.
