The Book Loan Program

Eligible FAU students may borrow one course textbook from the Office of Multicultural Affairs and keep it for the entire semester free of charge. In return, students are asked to complete five(5) hours of community service by the end of the semester. WHO IS ELIGIBLE
To be eligible for the Book Loan Program, students must be 1.) currently registered as a degree-seeking student; 2.) currently enrolled in the class for which the book is required, and 3.) currently receive financial aid assistance through the Office of Financial Aid. HOW TO APPLY Applications are only available on the first work day of the semester and can only be accepted until NOON on the last day of the drop/add period. WHICH BOOKS ARE OFFERED Books that are loaned to a student are for the core classes in the major you're currently registered for. Please review the catalogue to ensure that your courses are core courses. Books loaned do not include study guides, workbooks, annuals, lecture notes or suggested materials. HOW MANY BOOKS MAY A STUDENT OBTAIN Students are allotted one book per semester. If there are other available books, they will be distributed on a first come, first served basis AFTER the inital distribution of books. There are a limited number of books available for each course, as well as a limited funding available each academic year. DECISION ON SELECTED STUDENTS AND NOTIFICATION Students are approved for the Book Loan Program based on a combination of factors that include, but are not limited to: 1.) eligibility 2.) date completed application was submitted and 3.) past borrower history. You will be notified 24 to 72 hours after the drop/add deadline if you qualify for the Book Loan Program. You then have three(3) business days after receiving notification to pick up your book or the book may be given to another student. SERVICE HOURS Students must complete FIVE (5) hours of community service during the semester for EACH book that is borrowed. You will be required to keep a log of your hours. Students must utilize the FAU Boca Weppner Civic Engagement and Service Center to complete these hours. Their office is located on the 2nd Floor, Room 225 of the Student Services Building, above the Breezeway Cafeteria, across the hall from our office. The book and community service hours log must be returned to our office on or before the last day of the semester. Hours must be logged in on-Line at Noblehour. Link is provided here: If a student is late in returning their textbook on two or more occasions, they will be ineligible to participate in the book loan program.
