2018 Summer Upgrades at the Partner Campuses

As part of OIT’s contining refresh program, Broward Technology Services (OIT-BTS) and Northern Technology Services (OIT-NTS) have upgraded several e-classrooms, videoconference spaces, and several computer lab facilities at the Davie and Jupiter Campuses. The upgrades, which took place during the end of the Spring semester and during the Summer break, provided 12 different facilities with better equipment and/or new technology. The upgrades of these academic and instructional spaces will improve the learning environment for the students and professors who use those facilities on a regular basis. Also, all the printers available at all the facilities on all the partner campuses (Davie, Fort Lauderdale, and Jupiter) were upgraded. These upgrades are in accordance with Florida Atlantic University's Strategic Plan (Goal 5: Building a State-of-the-Art Information Technology Environment). The following is a summary of the upgraded areas and the improvements made to those facilities:


Davie Campus

Open Computer Labs | LA-303, LIB-103, & SU-101F

LA-303 | Davie CampusAll the machines of the Main Open Computer Lab (LA-303) were upgraded. Overall, 51 new computers were placed at this facility. There are 39 Dell Optiplex 7450 running Windows 10, and 12 Apple iMacs running High Sierra as their operating system. All the machines have 16 GB of memory. The Dell machines have 500 GB of hard drive space and Intel i7 processors. The iMacs have 1 TB of hard drive space and Intel i5 processors. The Library Open Computer lab (LIB-104) was relocated from room 103 to 104. This new space allows us to expand the number of machines at this location from 12 to 25 computers. The new space has 21 Lenovo M93P machines running Windows 10, with 8 GB of memory, 256 GB of hard drive space, and an Intel i5 processor. The lab now also has 4 iMac, which are exactly like the ones available at the Main Open Computer Lab (LA-303). Click here for more information about equipment now available at this facility.

The Student Union Open Computer Lounge (SD-101F) was also upgraded. All the machines were renovated with new ones. Overall, 10 new Dell Optiplex 5250 machines were added, in addition to 4 iMacs. The Windows 10 Dell Optiplex 5250 machines have 8 GB of memory, 256 GB of hard drive space, and an Intel i7 processor. E-Classrooms | LA-341, LA-404, & LA-456

LA-456 and DW-109 | Davie CampusThese classrooms received an overall system re-configuration and upgrade, which included the addition of a new teaching podium, as well as the replacement of the computer, screens, projector, etc. In summary, the following items were enhanced/replaced:

  • Teaching Station (streamline design)
  • Digital Media Presentation System (multiple digital input/output formats)
  • High lumens projector (5500 Lumens)
  • Larger projector screen (wide screen format)
  • Desktop computer (robust processor, sold state drive, Windows)
  • 24” Touch screen monitor

Lecture Capture Classroom | DW-109

One of the e-classrooms in the Davie West building (DW-109) was transformed into a lecture capture classroom. Several items were added to this room, including wide-angle cameras and a TV display. In summary, the following items were enhanced/replaced:

  • Digital media cards (input/output 4k cards)
  • Mediasite (lecture capture device)
  • Wide-angle presenter camera
  • Wide-angle student camera
  • 4K Compatible scalers
  • High-end document camera


Jupiter Campus

E-Classrooms | SR-268 & EC-102

HC-111 | Davie CampusThese classrooms received an overall system upgrade, which included the replacement of the computer, screens, projector, etc. In summary, the following items were enhanced/replaced:

  • Digital Media Presentation System (multiple digital input/output formats)
  • High lumens projector (5500 Lumens)
  • Larger projector screen (wide screen format)
  • Desktop computer (robust processor, sold state drive, Windows)
  • 24” Touch screen monitor
  • New mics and speakers

Videoconference Rooms | EC-202C & AD-222

These conference rooms were upgraded to transform them into up-to-date videoconference spaces. They received an overall system upgrade, which included the replacement of the computer, screens, projector, control systems, cameras, new codec, etc.

Instructional Computer Lab | HC-111

The computers of this instructional computer lab facility were upgraded with 25 Dell Optiplex 9010/9020 machines, with 16 GB of RAM, 240 GB of hard drive space, and a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 processors. They all run Windows 10 as their operating system.
