CHAPTER 6C5-6. PROPERTY AND FINANCE
6C5-6.011 Florida Atlantic University Endowment Trust Fund for Eminent Scholars.
(1) Purpose -- The Trust Fund established by 240.257, FS, for Eminent Scholars provides the opportunity for the University to develop a program to receive and match challenge grants to create endowments for selected Eminent Scholars to occupy chairs within the University.
(2) When the sum of the challenge grant and the matching funds meets statutory requirements the Foundation and the President of the University will recommend to the Board of Regents that a chair be created within an existing program in the selected College.
(3) Upon approval by the Board of Regents, of the recommendation for an
endowed chair, the President will authorize the Dean of the recipient College to develop, in consultation with the faculty of the College, criteria for determining the qualifications for consideration of candidates for the endowed chair. Such criteria will include an outstanding professional reputation and the potential for continuation of scholarly activities. The recommended criteria will be forwarded through the University Provost for the President's approval.
(4) The President will establish an ad hoc screening committee in conformance with the Eminent Scholars Act for each endowed chair to process nominations and applications. One member of the committee will be appointed by Student Government. Four members will be appointed by the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, one of whom shall be an alumnus of the University. At least two faculty members, together with such other persons as the President may wish, will be appointed by the President. The President will name the committee chairperson.
(5) The Eminent Scholars Screening Committee is advisory to the President. The committee will have the following responsibilities: to seek applications of and to accept nominations for candidates for the endowed chair; to communicate with and ascertain the interest of candidates; to satisfy requirements of law, and appropriate University rules, FAC chapter designation 6C5-5 regarding personnel selection; to evaluate the qualifications of applicants and nominees; and to recommend to the President one or more candidates.
(6) The President shall select the candidate to be offered the chair. If the President does not select the committee's candidate, or choose from among the candidates proposed by the committee, the President may order the selection process to be repeated.
