FAU to Host Events in Honor of LGBT History Month
Florida Atlantic University will celebrate LGBT History Month with a series of events for students and staff beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, through Thursday, Oct. 31 at its Boca Raton, Jupiter and Broward campuses. The events are free and open to the public.
The following events will take place at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:
Queer Coffee Hour: Healthy Relationships
Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 4 to 5 p.m.
Heritage Park Towers, Multipurpose Room
Queer Coffee Hour is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ students and allies to explore and discuss topics related to identity and inclusion.
Safe Zone Ally Training
Friday, Oct. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Owls Care Classroom
The Safe Zone Ally Training Program educates students on issues relating to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ+) community and fosters allies throughout our campus. The goal of Safe Zone is to create a safe and inclusive campus environment for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions.
Coming Out Monologues
Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Student Union House Chambers
Coming Out Monologues will be an open forum for participants to share coming out experiences through storytelling, spoken word, song, dance, or in whichever medium they express themselves best.
Annual Drag Show
Friday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m.
Carole and Barry Kay Performing Arts Auditorium
FAU’s annual drag show exposes participants to drag culture and its history. Locally known artists preform drag theatrically in an environment that promotes inclusion and awareness issues
affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
Playwright's Master Class with Jacqueline Goldfinger
Sunday, Oct. 13 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Theatre Lab, Parliament Hall, Room 102
Theatre Lab will host some of the nation’s most notable playwrights to share readings of their newest plays followed by a discussion about the work, their process and the importance new-play development.
Playwright's Forum: A Reading of BABEL by Jacqueline Goldfinger
Sunday, Oct. 13 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Theatre Lab, Parliament Hall, Room 102
Theatre Lab will present staged readings of new plays from established and emerging playwrights. These performances bring new plays to life using some of the area’s best actors with scripts in hand and will illuminate the innovative styles that are coming from the minds and imaginations of these extraordinary playwrights. Each performance will be followed with an in-depth discussion with the artists.
Lavender Circle Lunch
Wednesday, Oct. 16 at noon
Owls Care Classroom
The lunch will unite Hispanic/Latinx faculty, staff and students of the LGBTQ+ community to examine their identities as it relates to the intersectionality of their identities, being LGBTQ+ and Hispanic/Latinx.
Pride and Prejudice: 50 years since stonewall
Saturday, Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A professional development experience for all educators who wish to better serve LBGTQ+ students. The event will feature guest speakers, panel presentations and break-out sessions that highlight emerging research, personal experiences and opportunities for reflection.

Lambda United will collaborate with the Center for IDEAs to host the Remembrance Picnic, an event dedicated to honoring victims of LGBTQ+ hate crimes.

Thursday, Oct. 10 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Davie Student Union
Join the conversation about theory and on how to support a family member or friend who may be coming out or is struggling to find their identity. This workshop explores the process and challenges of coming out as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender.

Drag 101
Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
The Burrow
Experienced drag artists provide a real time before and after transformation process. Drag culture and its profound impact on gender expression will be discussed.
