The winner of several Tony Awards, including Best Score and Best Book, “Into the Woods” is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most popular and enduring musicals. This beautiful and entrancing tale of magic blends familiar fairy tales like “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” and “Cinderella,” following the story of a baker and his wife as they try to undo a witch’s curse that has left them childless. Musically sophisticated, “Into the Woods” offers audiences a lush and exciting celebration of life that reminds us that our actions have consequences, our lives are interdependent, and that our interdependence is our greatest strength. Winner of best revival awards in 2002 and 2011, “Into the Woods” is a sure fire crowd-pleaser.
Based on the Jane Austen novel, this refreshing, light-hearted romp through the English countryside tells the story of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they cope with changing social circumstances and wistful longings for love. Told with quick, tight structuring and a chorus of gossips, “Sense and Sensibility” is inventive and full of comic vitality. The New York Times called Kate Hamill’s bouncy, jaunty take on this beloved classic an unconditional delight, and Time Out called it an exuberant and thoroughly modern exploration of ageless emotions. Kate Hamill’s “Sense and Sensibility” has everything you’d expect from a Jane Austen novel and much more. Festival Repertory Theatre also includes two big band concerts featuring hits from the 30s, 40s and 50s presented by the FAU Swing Era Jazz Band; and a four-piano extravaganza.
“Festival Rep,” now in its 20th year, will once again feature professional equity actors working alongside FAU’s finest graduate students in their last production before they graduate and enter the world of professional theater. For more information on Festival Rep, visit www.fau.edu/festivalrep.
