Robert Anthony (Tony) Lavender received a B.A. in Music Education from Western Michigan University in 1976. Tony moved to South Florida in 1979 to teach and study at the University of Miami, earning a Masters of Music in Education – Jazz Pedagogy Emphasis in 1985.

Throughout a long professional career, Tony has performed as a percussionist, drummer, and vocalist with a broad spectrum of commercial and jazz artists, including Tony Bennett, Randy Brecker, the Boca Pops Orchestra, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Dion.

In addition to FAU, Tony teaches music in the Palm Beach County School System. He has also served on the music faculty of Western Michigan University, Palm Beach Community College, and the University of Miami.
