Auditions and Admissions

All students seeking to the department as music majors or minors must complete a performance audition prior to the first semester of study. Auditions are approximately 10 minutes in duration. Please contact the area advisor to receive detailed information regarding audition requirements and repertoire as well as to schedule your audition.

Transfer students must also complete placement tests in music theory and aural skills. Transfer students should have completed four semesters each of music theory and sight singing, ensemble performance, applied music, and one semester in music literature for unconditional acceptance as music majors.

Due to the complex nature of the music program, prospective students should contact the appropriate advisor to arrange for academic advising prior to class registration.


All FAU music ensembles are open to all FAU students by audition and are not limited to Music majors. Contact the area advisor for audition information.
