BOCA RATON, FL (October 29, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University will host the following events:
‘Book Arts 101: H arvest’ at FAU Library
The course will be taught on Sunday, November 18, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., at FAU’s Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts at the Wimberly Library, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. “Book Arts 101: Harvest,” a 3.5-hour introductory immersion course, will be taught by John Cutrone, director of the Jaffe Center. Participants will watch a 25-minute video about the Jaffe Center’s collection, view books related to autumn, use historic wood type to print paper and use a single signature pamphlet stitch to bind a take-home book. The course is open to all levels. Tuition is by donation to the Jaffe Center’s education fund. ‘ Green Market @ FAU’
FAU Mission Green and Inika Foods will celebrate Campus Sustainability Day (CSD) at the next green market on Thursday, November 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. at FAU Stadium Plaza, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. For more information, call 561-297-0197 or visit www.fau.edu/missiongreen .
‘Green Market @ FAU’ is an on-campus green market held weekly on Thursdays and is free and open to the public. The market features local vendors offering a variety of fresh produce, organic products and handmade crafts and jewelry in addition to wellness activities such as yoga. In addition, this week, more than a dozen vendors that specialize in “green” products and sustainable solutions for the home and office will be on-site including Home Depot; The Electric Bike Store; Pepe’s Plants offering container gardening; USGBC promoting “green” homes; Mighty Fine Vertical Vegetable Gardens; Sprint Communications; Sustainscapes integrating native plants in landscape design; and South Florida Commuter Services promoting mass transit.
FAU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities Presents ‘Enabling Sustainable Jobs for Individuals with Autism,’ a Lecture by Thorkil Sonne
This free lecture will be held on Saturday, November 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Auditorium, John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter . Registration is free. For more information or to RSVP call 561-297-2055 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org .
FAU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) will host a lecture by Thorkil Sonne, founder of Specialist People Foundation in Denmark. This nonprofit organization has designed jobs and a workplace that allows individuals with autism to succeed. Sonne, who has a son with autism, was president of Autism Denmark.
