Balfour Beatty and Barnes & Noble Join List of President’s Level Sponsors for FAU’s Anniversary Gala

BOCA RATON, FL (September 2, 2011) – As part of its year-long 50th anniversary celebration, Florida Atlantic University will host “50 on the 50,” a gala event to be held this fall, with proceeds benefitting the President’s Scholarship Fund. Balfour Beatty Construction, Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and Barnes & Noble recently showed their support by becoming president’s level sponsors with donations of $25,000 each.

“Personally, and on behalf of Balfour Beatty Construction, I feel privileged to congratulate Florida Atlantic University on 50 years of academic excellence. This is a tremendous milestone for the university, faculty, student body and community,” said Ray Southern, division CEO and president of Balfour Beatty Construction. “We feel like part of the FAU family after 14 years of successful partnerships building innovative teaching and learning environments. It’s very rewarding to be a part of the enrichment of individuals who enter FAU as students and graduate as success stories.”

A leader in the U.S. commercial construction industry, Balfour Beatty Construction provides general contracting, at-risk construction management and design-build services nationwide. Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, a subsidiary of Balfour Beatty Capital Group, Inc., assists colleges and universities in the execution of capital plans so that on-campus real estate will contribute to long-term institutional viability.

“Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions is honored to partner with Florida Atlantic University. When we learned that the sponsorship opportunity for the 50th anniversary gala benefited students in the form of scholarships, we never thought twice about becoming a sponsor,” said Bob Shepko, division president of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. “Supporting students in their academic endeavors aligns with our corporate philosophy, values and mission. We are grateful for the opportunity and hope that this contribution benefits many students today and in the future.”

Barnes & Noble College Booksellers serves nearly four million students and 250,000 faculty members, and operates more than 600 campus bookstores nationwide. The company has had a relationship with FAU for nearly 30 years.

“As a long-time partner of Florida Atlantic University’s, Barnes & Noble is proud to sponsor the ‘50 on the 50’ anniversary gala,” said Brian Stark, vice president of stores for Barnes & Noble College. “We look forward to celebrating with our friends at FAU this fall and to many more years of shared success.”

The black-tie gala event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 in FAU’s new on-campus football stadium in Boca Raton. Sponsorships are available at the $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000 levels. Additionally, patrons may purchase advertising space in the commemorative program.

“On behalf of the host committee, I thank our friends at Balfour Beatty Construction, Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and Barnes & Noble for their support of our 50th anniversary gala,” said Randy Talbot, senior vice president of University Advancement at FAU. “As president’s level sponsors, they join Chartwells, Dell, Inc., the E.M. Lynn Foundation, the Schmidt Family Foundation and Wells Fargo in playing an extremely important role in the University’s golden anniversary celebration.”

One of Florida’s 11 public universities, FAU dates its origin to 1961, when the legislature allocated $100,000 to establish the fifth institution in the State University System in Boca Raton. FAU opened its doors to a charter enrollment of 867 students in the fall of 1964. Today, FAU is serving 29,000 undergraduate and graduate students on seven campuses and sites ranging along 100 miles of Florida’s southeast coast, from Dania Beach to Fort Pierce.
