FAU Ranked in Top 30 Nationally for Campus Ethnic Diversity in ‘U.S. News & World Report’

BOCA RATON, FL (July 16, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University ranks 27th in campus ethnic diversity among national universities, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 best college rankings. The magazine identifies colleges and universities where students are most likely to encounter other students from ethnic or racial groups different from their own.

“Florida Atlantic University takes pride in its diverse student body, as well as in all our students’ extraordinary academic achievements,” said FAU President Mary Jane Saunders. “As the most racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse student body in Florida’s state university system, it is an honor to be nationally recognized in such a prominent news publication. FAU truly is America’s university.”

To come up with the rankings, U.S. News factored in the total proportion of minority students and overall mix of groups. The formula did not include international students. The ranking system was based on enrollment and ethnicity data from educational institutions for the 2010-11 academic year student bodies. The categories used in compiling the information are African-Americans who are non-Hispanic, Hispanic, American Indian, Pacific Islander, whites who are non-Hispanic, and multiracial.

Other Florida state universities to rank in the top 100 include University of Florida at 63rd, University of South Florida at 67th, and University of Central Florida at 84th. Florida International University in Miami ranks at 102nd on the list.
