FAU Donors Honored at Recognition Reception

BOCA RATON, FL (May 9, 2012) – The Florida Atlantic University Division of Community Engagement recently hosted a reception to recognize the alumni, faculty, staff and friends of FAU who have generously donated to the University over the past two years. More than 200 guests attended the reception, which took place in the atrium of the Platinum LEED-certified Engineering East building on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.

Guests were welcomed by Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., vice president of community engagement and executive director of the FAU Foundation. FAU President Mary Jane Saunders offered thanks on behalf of the University family.

“Students are always our first concern, and we have never been more grateful for all you, our donors, are doing for them through your wonderful acts of generosity,” said Saunders. “Whether you are funding a scholarship program, endowing a professorship, supporting an academic department or our athletics program, or helping us build new facilities, you are making a huge contribution to ensuring the future of FAU.”

From July 1, 2011 through March 29, 2012 the FAU Foundation provided more than $5.5 million toward 1,693 Foundation Scholarships and 577 First Generation scholarships. Saunders has stated that there will be no reduction in financial assistance to students as a result of the $24.7 million cut to FAU’s budget for the 2012-13 academic year.

“The university is coming on some very difficult times as state support for higher education continues to decrease, so it is especially important to us that we celebrate our donors and all that they give to this institution,” said O’Flannery Anderson. “We have raised 95 percent of our fundraising goal to date, and we plan to exceed our goal by the end of the fiscal year, thanks to our generous supporters.”
