FAU University Club to Host Café Concert Fundraiser

BOCA RATON, FL (January 30, 2012) – The University Club of Florida Atlantic University will host "Jazz from Harlem to Broadway," a café concert event, with proceeds benefitting student scholarships and FAU Libraries. The event is scheduled for Sunday, February 12 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Delray Acura Premier Club at FAU Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

The concert will be performed by FAU's Klezmer Company Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Maestro Aaron Kula. The Klezmer Company Orchestra serves as the professional ensemble-in-residence at FAU Libraries, with a mission to perform world music from a wide range of cultures and historical periods.

"The challenge of providing worthy students with a quality education has been and always will be the motivation behind all activities of the University Club," said University Club President Alene Brewer. "In addition to raising funds for FAU, we hope that the concert also will increase awareness of FAU's wonderful Klezmer Company Orchestra and its accomplished jazz and classical musicians."

FAU benefactor Marleen Forkas will serve as the honorary chair of the event. She and her late husband, Harold, have been involved with FAU since 1997. They are members of the University's Inner Circle of Football Founders and inaugural contributors to FAU Stadium. The couple's gift of $1.1 million in 2005 set in motion plans to build FAU's first-ever alumni center, now known as the Marleen & Harold Forkas Alumni Center. The Center provides a permanent venue on the Boca Raton campus for a variety of events and programs for alumni, students, staff, community and corporate partners.

Since its founding in 1976, the University Club, a branch of the FAU Foundation, has been creating a brighter future for students through its donations to the University. To date, the Club has raised more than $400,000 for student scholarships and more than $500,000 for FAU Libraries.
